BodyworkMassage & Reflexology
In 1987 Rene was certified in massage, reflexology and aromatherapy.
Her massage technique is unique to each individual and no two massages may necessarily be the same, depending on what presents on that day.
In 1999 she attended the Yoga Teachers course at Ananda kutir Ashram, then followed on to the Remedial Yoga Therapist certification for 3 years. In 2003 she received a diploma in Remedial yoga Therapy and Ayurvedic Practioner. She is a director and lecturer at The Academy of Yoga and Ayurveda and teaches Anatomy, Ayurveda, Yoga asana, pranayama and Yoga Nidra.
Rene now incorporates all these modules in each treatment using hot oil with aromatherapy oils and hot water bottles to soften and relax the muscular and nervous systems and puts emphasis on finding lasting relief from the musculoskeletal problems and maintaining a pain and injury free body.
“Once we find space in the body through massage and specific movement to open areas of discomfort, we move into a comfortable state of ease.”
Combining Yoga and Body work incorporates breath, body and mind to find a peaceful centered space to be clear and relaxed. Any discomfort can be alleviated through a combination of tools.
When there is space in the body there is no discomfort. In order to create space I use hot oil, towels and hot water bottles to soften and relax the body while undoing the muscle fibres in order to bring comfort.
I feel the depth of tension in the muscles and work at the depth the muscles are able to receive. Often the emotional and mental pain the body is carrying needs gentle releasing strokes as opposed to working deeper into tightly bound facia and muscle.
The treatment starts with a warm foot bath and an Ayurvedic foot scrub. You then lie down warm and comfortable.
I use dry powder walking technique, pressing into the soles of the feet and ending with a hot oil foot massage. Feet are left soft and flexible while the whole body benefits.
Remedial Yoga Therapy
These are one on one sessions which include yoga asana, pranayama (breathing techniques) and Yoga Nidra ( Body asleep while mind awake and aware) and may also include massage appointments. Any discomfort can be alleviated through a combination of tools.
Physical discomforts and ailments: Back, neck, shoulders, hips, limbs.
Mind discomfort: Anxiety, fear, irritation, anger, grief. Breathing Ailments: Breathlessness, asthma.
This is one of the tools in Remedial Yoga Therapy. In Ayurveda food, spices and herbs are medicine. Rhythms of the days, months, seasons and life are observed to steer you towards balance. Digesting food properly to be nourished on a cellular level is achieved by nurturing the digestive fire or agni which breaks down the food particles for absorption. Elimination purifies the body and lowers fire Pitta) in the body. Digestion of ideas, emotions and events reflect in the digestive tract. Combining yoga asana, breathing and foods, spices and herbs to balance the body.
